A method for pulse multiplicity counting with dead time correction is described. 5 The method comprises generating, for each channel, an estimate of lost pulses on the channel with a respective assumed dead time period for each channel, and, obtaining, for each channel, a relative efficiency thereof with respect to the sum of efficiencies for all channels and deriving, for each channel, a dead-time behaviour (e.g. iteratively using basic properties of channels). At least a first 10 corrected histogram is generated based on the respective detected pulse train and the estimated lost pulse train for the or each channel. Preferably, the method is for neutron multiplicity counting in which each detected pulse train is generated by a respective part of a detector, each pulse in a pulse train corresponding to at least one detected neutron. A pulse counting system for 15 pulse multiplicity counting with dead time correction is also disclosed.
