A method of treatment of bauxite residue resulting from a Bayer process of bauxite treatment in order to produce a solid product, the method comprising the steps of mixing a quantity of the bauxite residue with a quantity of a glass material 2 to form a mixture, compressing the mixture under a compressive pressure of at least 10MPa to form a green body, sintering 5 the green body and cooling the sintered green body to thereby provide the solid product. The bauxite residue/waste product/ red mud may be mixed with the glass to form an aqueous paste which is compressed to dewater. The mixture may be extruded. A portion of the produced solid may be crushed and added to the initial mixture. A process of bauxite treatment comprising an analysis step, processing the bauxite according to the Bayer process and treating the resulting residue is also disclosed.
