The king pin assembly (26) comprises a king pin (28) and a skid plate (30), wherein the king pin (28) is connected to the skid plate (30), wherein the king pin assembly (26) further comprise a retainer plate (32), wherein the retainer plate (32) is located inside 10 the shells (52) and wherein the skid plate (30) is connected to the retainer plate (32) by cooperating attachment means (34) and/or by gluing.
