Embodiments of the present invention include a hot staged recirculation burner and radiant tube burner assembly that is highly efficient, low NOx and CO emissions, and provides uniform temperature characteristics. Such a staged recirculation burner is connected to the combustion tube, the combustion tube (47) having inner and outer helical fins that form opposed helical paths for the combustion gases and products of combustion. A combustion nozzle (32), a gas pipe (37) extending axially into the combustion pipe, and a staged gas nozzle (51) coupled to the gas pipe, wherein the combustion pipe is adapted to stage the combustion.
