The invention relates to a steering controller (5), wherein the steering controller (5) is configured in such a way as to obtain input signals from at least one sensor for detecting a steering request of a motor vehicle driver and at least one driver assistance system (10, 11), wherein the steering controller (5) is also configured to generate an actuating signal (S) for a power electronics unit (6), wherein the actuating signal (S) is assembled from two components (K1, K2), wherein the steering controller is configured in such a way that the first component (K1) is determined from the input signal from the at least one sensor, wherein the signals from the driver assistance system (10, 11) have no influence on the first component (K1), and the second component (K2) is determined from the input signals from the at least one driver assistance system (10, 11), wherein the signals from the sensor are taken into account in the second component (K2); and to a method for determining an actuating signal (S) for a power electronics unit (6) of a steering device (1) of a motor vehicle.
