I have pleasure in submitting to you the Report of the Review Group on Health andudPersonal Social Services for People with Physical and Sensory Disabilities, Towards anudIndependent Future.udThe task of the Review Group was to examine the current provision of health services toudpeople with physical or sensory disabilities and recommend how such services should beuddeveloped to meet more effectively their needs and those of their families. Our Report isudthe first detailed review of services for persons with physical and sensory disabilities sinceudthe publication ofthe Green Paper Towards a Full Life in 1984.udThe main thrust of our Report is the development of services to enable people with audphysical or sensory disability to live as independently as possible in the community. Weudrecommend that priority be given to the provision of more day care, respite care, nursingudand therapy services, personal assistants and residential accommodation to achieve thisudgoal. The Review Group attaches great importance to integrating services for people withuddisabilities with mainstream services wherever possible.
