摘要
Japan and the United Nations. By withdrawing from the League of Nations in 1933, Japan has chosen isolation, thus freeing itself from any treaty constraint in the purpose of dominating the Far East. In 1945, its defeat has led it to ostracism. Held apart from the international society, during as well as after the American occupation, it has wished to become a full member of the United Nations in order to reintegrate the community of nations. Admitted in 1956, it has acted like an USA ally, remaining in the background but constantly proving its belonging to the Western camp. Thanks to its economic power, its importance now enables it to be on an equal footing with the most powerful countries in the United Nations. By a growing involvement in the activities of the world organization, it now strives to impose the legitimacy of its ambition to get the status of a « special member » in the Security Council.
