UTILIZATION OF DESALINATION WASTE FOR SYNTHESIS OF Mg/AludHYDROTALCITE-LIKE AS RAW MATERIAL PHARMACY INDUSTRIES

The synthesis of Mg/Al hydrotalcite-like (HTlc) using brine water from desalination wasteudfor raw material pharmacy industries has been performed. Sample preparation of Mg/AludHTlc are using artificial brine water and brine water from desalination waste of PLTUudTanjung Jati B, Jepara, Central Jawa, respectively. Firstly, calsium content in brine waterudwas removed by adding mixed solution Na2CO3ud-NaHCO3udwith agitation for 1 h at 95±2⁰C.udThen, into calcium free brine water was added AlCl3udwith Mg/Al molar ratio of 2.0. Withudconstant pH at pH 10.5±2, the solution was then continuously stirred for 1 hour at 70⁰C. Theudsuspension product was filtered off, washed with distilled water until free of chloride ion.udAfter that, all samples were dried overnight.udThe obtained samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourierudtransform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and surface area measurements. According to XRDudresults, the present study was able to show that the sample exhibit the (003) reflectionudaround 7.6Ǻ, typical for Mg/Al HTlc with carbonate interlayer. This condition wereudsupported by FT-IR results that characteristic of hydrotalcite peak appears around 3500 cmud-1udare attribute to the stretching mode of OH groups, the wavenumber between 3000-3100 cmud-1uddue to hydrogen bonding of interlayer water with interlayer carbonate anion and the bendingudvibration of interlayer water is found around 1630 cmud-1ud. Antisymmetric vibration ofudcarbonate anion were shown around 1350-1400 cmud-1ud, while corresponds to lattice vibrationsudof Mg-O, Al-O and /or Mg-O-Al are found below 1000 cmud-1ud. From XRD and FT-IRudcharacterization were proven that synthesis result is Mg/Al HTlc. In addition, the spesificudsurface area result was 30.82 mud2ud.gud-1udand be classified as microporous. Because Mg/Al HTlcudsynthesized has a relatively big spesific surface area, the sorption capacity of Mg/Al HTlcudwould be big too. From this preliminary studies, therefore, Mg/Al HTlc from brine water asudpossible as a raw material pharmacy industries.
