Estudo de aspectos para a interoperabilidade nas bibliotecas nacionais da América do Sul: padrões de estrutura de metadados descritivos e padrões de conteúdo

In the backdrop of globalization in action from various fields as well as the (re) definition of relationships between such areas as technology, economy, culture and education, changes within the libraries, specifically the need for interoperability between automated systems management that promote their products and services, become indispensable. It is through interoperability that makes it possible for remote communication between computers and exchange of bibliographic records available resources in the collection, a process that also requires standardization in cataloging and communicating between computing devices. Thus, this research turns to carry out a diagnosis of the situation of the national libraries of South America on the use of standards in cataloging their collections and their relationship to issues of interoperability between systems. Thus, it was proposed aimed at providing a diagnosis of the situation of the national libraries of the countries of South America, on the use of standard descriptive metadata structure and content standards for cataloging of information resources and the use of interoperability between management systems in use by institutions. Specific objectives needed to achieve the proposed goal, we present: studying the requirements of bibliographic records sharing and interoperability between management systems; study patterns of descriptive metadata structure and content standards; identify national libraries of the countries of South America; diagnose patterns of descriptive metadata structure and content standards adopted in the national libraries of South America; diagnose the modus operandi of the bibliographic records sharing and interoperability between management systems within each national library; comparatively evaluate the similarities and differences between the standards used by these libraries on the aspects required for interoperability. As a methodological procedure was chosen qualitative and quantitative approach, the bibliographical and field research, and the questionnaire as a tool for data collection. As partial results to the requirements of bibliographic records sharing and interoperability between management systems were identified as MARC21 Bibliographic ± standard framework of descriptive metadata; the AACR2 ± standard content; ISO2709 ± the exchange of bibliographic records format; ± and Z39.50 communication protocol and retrieval of bibliographic information. National libraries were identified in the countries of South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, but not in Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname. The results about the patterns effectively adopted, and the way in which it gives the sharing of bibliographic records and interoperability between management systems, are still being identified. Hopefully, this research contribute to better understand the operation and use of technological resources in national libraries, specifically on participation in file sharing networks
