In 2008, the Republic of Ecuador denounced the Convention on the Settlement ofInvestment Disputes. This action on behalf of Ecuador has resulted in several legaleffects under the legal framework of the State, such as the withdrawal of consent toICSID jurisdiction, the denouncement of BITs with certain States and the possibilityof State-State disputes. For this reason, it is necessary to make factual and legal analysisof what have been the background to the denouncement, the legal implications thathave emerged, and the investment environment in Ecuador.
