The three chapters in Part 1 lay the groundwork for the following chapters bydiscussing what archeology is, the many values of archeological sites, actions that threaten those values, and legal aspects of archeological site protection. Part 2 contains five chapters on protection techniques that rely on the law for their effectiveness. The three chapters in Part 3 provide information on non-regulatory techniques that can be used to protect archeological sites. Part 4 contains the concluding chapter, which emphasizes the importance of consulting legal experts and using creativity in applying various combinations of protection techniques.
