The Labor Advisory Committee for Trade Negotiations and Trade Policy (LAC)believes that the proposed trade agreements resulting from the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations offer little, if anything positive to U.S. workers, and in certain respects will directly harm their interests. The agreement negotiated under the auspices of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), falls far short of the trade negotiating objectives contained in Section 1101 of the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988, and may seriously limit the ability of the U.S. to fashion policies and take actions that will address this country's persistent and growing trade deficit.
