U.S. agricultural exports to China for 1996 totaled $2.1 billion, down from $2.6billion in 1995 because of smaller shipments of wheat and corn. For the past few years, China's agricultural trade continues to be characterized by exports of processed and high-value products and imports of more land-intensive and semi-processed goods. In 1996, China continued to be a net grain importer.
