摘要

The objective of this investigation was to explore, through the development of aconceptual design, the technical feasibility of using microwave irradiation as an environmentally benign alternative to conventional biocidal treatments for the control of internal microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of natural gas pipelines. It has long been recognized that MIC on the interior surfaces of natural gas pipelines constitutes one of the major threats to pipeline integrity. Currently, this threat is successfully mitigated using biocidal treatments such as glutaraldehyde, but such treatments are coming under increasing environmental scrutiny.
