The USDA potato breeding program at Beltsville has four main objectives: (1) to211u001edevelop improved pest-resistant germplasm and varieties; (2) to develop improved 211u001egermplasm and varieites for processing directly out of cold storage; (3) to 211u001eenhance germplasm for specific characteristics relating to pest resistance, 211u001eyield, environmental stress, human nutrition and consumer acceptance; and, (4) to 211u001edevelop statistical genetic models for some of the new breeding strategies.
