The case studies present available cost and performance information for full-211u001escale remediation efforts and several large-scale demonstration projects. They 211u001eare meant to serve as primary reference sources, and contain information on site 211u001ebackground and setting, contaminants and media treated, technology, cost and 211u001eperformance, and points of contact for the technology application. The studies 211u001econtain varying levels of detail, reflecting the differences in the availability 211u001eof data and information. The case studies in this volume describe twelve 211u001egroundwater remediation applications that used innovative treatment technologies. 211u001eThree of the applications used permeable reactive barriers; four used insitu 211u001ebioremediation (some in conjunction with pump and treat); one used air sparging 211u001ealone; one used a combination of in situ bioremediation, air sparging, and pump 211u001eand treat; one used a combination air and stream stripping process; one used a 211u001emembrane filtration process; and one used a chemical reaction and dissolved air 211u001eflotation process. Seven of these applications were conducted at full scale, and 211u001ethe remaining five at a field demonstration scale. Contaminants treated included 211u001echlorinated solvents, petroleum hydrocarbons, ploycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons 211u001e(PAHs), and metals.
