摘要

In the GPR research cluster it is studied which opportunities GPR may offer for research and monitoring aspects relating to soil remediation. The research mainly focuses on checking whether it is possible to monitor the distribution of air in soil during air sparging and to map a situation (retention/retardation zones) in the case of hydrocarbon contaminations. Literature studies, evaluations of radar surveys, as well as field tests, show that GPR offers good opportunities, but an unambiguously association between the observed anomalies in radar data and the different zones with contaminations or sparged air could not be demonstrated. As for monitoring of sparged air, a computer modelling as demonstrated, though, that-at least under ideal conditions-the distribution of air in soil can be shown using GPR. However, both applications need further research to really assess the value of GPR in the field.
