Veterans' Health Care: Service Delivery for Veterans on Guam and the Commonwealth211 of the Northern Mariana Islands

In light of veteran's concerns' you asked us to (1) describe how VA currently211u001emeets Guam and CNMI veterans; health care needs, (2) esimate these veterans' 211u001epossible future demand for health care and assess VA's ability to meet this 211u001edemand, and (3) estimate the cost to establish a veteran's inpatient ward at the 211u001eU.S. Naval Hospital on Guam. To examine these issues, we reviewed VA and 211u001eDepartment of Defense (DOD) policies and procedures and interviewed VA and DOD 211u001eofficials in headquarters and field locations regarding veterans' health care on 211u001eGuam. We visited VA and Navy health care facilities on Guam and met with 211u001erepresentative of veterans organizations on Guam and with Government of Guam 211u001eofficials to discuss veterans' concerns with VA health care. We also projected 211u001ethe future veteran population and the possible demand for and use of inpatient 211u001ehealth care through the year 2010.
