Formamide (FORM) is a widely used industrial solvent, and its developmental211u001etoxicity in laboratory species has been reported previously. This study was 211u001eperformed due to the lack of data from pregnant rats exposed during the entire 211u001eembryo/fetal period. Dose selection was based on a screening study in which CD 211u001erats were treated by gavage with 0, 62, 125, 250, 500, or 1000 mg FORM/kg body 211u001eweight/day on gestational days (gd) 6-19 (NTP, 1998). Maternal toxicity was noted 211u001eat = or > 250 mg/kg/day, including morbidity, and reductions in water/food 211u001eintake, body weight, and weight gain. Fetal body weight was reduced at = or > 125 211u001emg/kg/day (NTP, 1998).
