摘要

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences sponsored a workshop on211u001eApril 6-9, 1998 at the Hyatt Regency at Civic Plaza, Phoenix, Arizona. The goal 211u001eof this meeting as to review and to discuss the utility and applicability of data 211u001efrom clinical and in vivo studies for characterizing potential human hazards 211u001eassociated with exposure to extremely low frequency (ELF) electric and magnetic 211u001efields (EMF). Included in this booklet are the complete reports from each of the 211u001ebreakout groups. The individual sessions covered specific research areas: cancer, 211u001ereproduction and development, clinical outcomes, tissue healing, neurobiology and 211u001eneurobehavior, electromagnetic hypersensitivity, melatonin, and immunotoxicity. 211u001eIn addition, there were sessions on dosimetry and physical theory. Most of the in 211u001evivo studies on cancer and reproduction/development provided no evidence for ELF-211u001eEMF effects. Interest was raised about possible effects on sleep, heart 211u001evariability, and neurological diseases. Recommendations were made for 211u001einvestigations that focus on factors for identifying subgroups sensitive to ELF-211u001eEMF and for research on melatonin and the immune system.
