This decision document amends the selected remedial action for the Tibbetts Road211u001eSuperfund Site (Site) located in Barrington, New Hampshire, as outlined in the 211u001eSeptember 29, 1992 (PB93-963709) Record of Decision. The 1992 ROD called for the 211u001eextraction and treatment of contaminated ground water from the overburden and 211u001eweathered bedrock aquifers beneath the Site using vacuum extraction and pump-and-211u001etreat, respectively. At the time of the vacuum extraction system was shut down in 211u001e1997, contaminant removal rates had decreased to the point where there was 211u001elimited progress being made towards achieving the clean up levels identified in 211u001ethe 1992 ROD. After evaluating the available alternatives, EPA selected natural 211u001ebioremediation and phytoremediation as the means of treating the remaining 211u001econtamination found in the overburden and bedrock aquifers. The selected remedy 211u001eis a comprehensive approach which addresses all current and potential future 211u001erisks caused by soil and groundwater contamination at the Site and will attain 211u001eclean up levels within a reasonable time frame.
