The aim was to determine the effects of the properties and composition of phenol211u001eformaldehyde adhesives on the mechanical and moisture physical properties of 211u001eplywood important in end use conditions. The end use requirements for the 211u001eusability and serviceability of plywood vary in different applications and they 211u001eshould be matched to the properties of plywood. The benefits of more accurate 211u001eknowledge about adhesives are better and faster flexibility and control of 211u001eadhesives to be suitable for the manufacturing conditions of a plywood mill. 211u001ePlywood made of ideal adhesive should perform better in high moisture 211u001eenvironments and be more cost effective to the customer. The following adhesive 211u001eproperties were selected: alkalinity, phenol-formaldehyde (PF) solids content and 211u001esurface tension. Nine different types of adhesives were manufactured to determine 211u001estatistically the main and cross-effects of variables. The raw wood material was 211u001eselected birch veneers 1.5 mm thick. The natural variation of wood properties was 211u001ereduced to the minimum. The ageing of plywood specimens was done to obtain a more 211u001erealistic view of the end use behavior and to emphasize the effects of different 211u001eadhesive types.
