Determination of Resilient Modulus for Maine Roadway Soils

The Maine Department of Transportation commissioned this study to examine methods211u001eof obtaining resilient modulus for use in pavement design. Resilient modulus is a 211u001emeasure of soil layer stiffness and is highly subjective to density, moisture 211u001econtent, soil fabric structure, compaction method, laboratory equipment 211u001ecompliance, and technical skill. As a result, several alternative test methods 211u001ehave been proposed. These alternative test methods include resilient modulus 211u001ecorrelation to results from torsional shear and resonant column tests, a modified 211u001egyratory test machine normally used for testing asphalt concrete specimens, and a 211u001esmall-scale falling weight deflectometer device.
