The access and usability of information and communication technologies are discussed related to the expansion of IT-society. In order to decide how to support research about the use of IT, KFB took the initiative to investigate the occurrence and the content of Swedish research concerning needs, behaviors and social patterns among user-groups; the role of users in design-processes; the reflexivity of the researchers and the engineers related to their research object. The investigation encompasses technical research and research on technology, man and society, in Sweden but also some international networks and initiatives. Interviews were undertaken with about fifty researchers within academy and industry, and representatives of state authorities and research boards. The result shows that Swedish research on the use of IT is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary.
