Worker Protection: Better Coordination Can Improve Safety at Hazardous MaterialFacilities

We reviewed coordination among the federal agencies engaged in protecting safetyand health at hazardous material work places. Specifically, we assessed (1) the extent to which agencies have overlapping statutory authority or procedures, (2) employers' and workers' experiences with multiagency efforts to protect work place safety and health at hazardous material facilities, and (3) the extent to which agencies coordinate their enforcement efforts and communicate to employers the nature and extent of their coordinated activities.
