Measuring Quality of Life in Organ Transplant Patients Final rept. (Sept 27 2002-Aug 31 2004)

The purpose of this research was to determine, in solid organ transplant candidates and recipients, item and scale characteristics, and the latent variable structures of a battery of surveys that measure physical and mental health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and patient satisfaction. Specifically, instruments measured: (1) symptoms of depression; (2) symptoms of anxiety; (3) physical, mental, and overall health; and (4) satisfaction with transplantation healthcare delivery. Identification of HRQOL constructs that are applicable (and potentially unique) to transplant patients, determination of optimally meaningful and responsive scoring methods, and identification of potentially redundant information informs the survey process and points to future refinements in a survey battery.
