NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation Report: HETA No. 2003-0328-2935, CPC Pasadena Plastics Complex, Pasadena, Texas

On July 27, 2003, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) received a confidential request for a Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) of potential chromium exposure at the Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPC) Pasadena Plastics Complex in Pasadena, Texas. The request was submitted by the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy (PACE) Workers International Union Local 4-227. PACE was concerned about managements policy toward health and safety issues pertaining to chromium catalyst and was interested in information on the short-term and long-term effects associated with exposure to trivalent chromium (CrIII) and hexavalent chromium (CrVI).
