摘要

Phlox hirsuta (Yreka phlox) was listed as an endangered species on February 3, 2000 (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 2000), under the authority of the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. The plant is a narrow endemic, known to occur at only five locations in the vicinity of Yreka, California. The number and spatial distribution of plants at these locations varies from a single occurrence containing 200 to 300 plants to a larger occurrence comprising numerous discrete suboccurrences totaling 5,000 to 10,000 plants. Phlox hirsuta occurs on lands owned and managed by industrial timber companies, other private landowners, the U.S. Forest Service, California Department of Transportation, and the City of Yreka.
