National Compensation Survey: Occupational Wages in the East South Central Census Division, June 2005

The data in this bulletin are based on the National Compensation Survey (NCS) conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) throughout the year. The surveys are locality-based and cover establishments in private industry and State and local governments. Bulletins are issued for individual localities when sufficient data meet publication standards. Agriculture, private households, and the Federal Government are excluded from the scope of the survey. In the East South Central Census Division, the NCS studied 1,608 establishments representing approximately 5,149,600 workers within the scope of the survey. Private sector establishments with 1 or more workers are included in the survey. State and local governments with 50 or more workers within a survey area are also included. The number of workers represented by the survey is shown in table A, and the number of establishments is shown in table B. For purposes of this survey, an establishment is an economic unit that produces goods or services, a central administrative office, or an auxiliary unit providing support services to a company. For private industries in this survey, the establishment is usually at a single physical location. For State and local governments, an establishment is defined as all locations of a government entity.
