摘要

The Federal Government is the largest single producer, collector, consumer, and disseminator of information in the United States. In fiscal year 2006, the Federal Government continued to use industry leading information technology to more effectively manage and deliver government information and services. As a result, Federal programs operate more transparently and effectively. Greater access to government information benefits our country by sustaining an informed citizenry, aiding government decision makers, and supporting our economy - fundamental to a healthy democracy. The Administrations electronic government (E-Government) promotes increased access to government information, improves services to the citizen with efficient and effective Federal programs, and helps agencies achieve their goals. E-Government helps agencies share information between Federal agencies, States, and local and Tribal governments to monitor the performance and results of Federal programs. The cost-effective use of information technology to provide consistent access to and dissemination of government information is essential to promote a more citizen-centered government.
