摘要

2-minus-1-roads aim at improving cycling and walking conditions along low traffic rural roads. They provide more space to vulnerable road users. The number of driving lanes is reduced from two to one and the shoulders are widened. The measure is current not used in Norway. Experience from other countries has shown that 2-minus-1-roads do not lead to the expected speed reductions and that overtaking vehicles keep less distance to cyclists because cyclists cycle further away from the edge of the road than on roads without extended shoulder. There is also confusion among road users as to what rules apply on 2-minus-1-roads. The effects of 2-minus-1-roads may be improved by supplementary measures such as reduced speed limits or speed humps. Alternative measures may have more positive effects without being misunderstood by drivers or cyclists.
