During the 2009 Evaluation Year, the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement conducted oversight evaluations of the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship, Division of Soil Conservation, Bureau of Mines and Minerals Regulatory and Abandoned Mine Land Programs. The oversight studies focused on the success of the Iowa Division of Soil Conservation in meeting the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 goals for environmental protection and prompt, effective reclamation of land mined for coal.
