Interferenti Endocrini: Valutazione e Prevenzione Dei Possibili Rischi Per la Salute Umana. (Endocrine Disrupters: Evaluation and Prevention of Possibile Risks to Human Health.)

The Istituto Superiore di Sanita (Italian National Institute of Health), through the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience and the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety, held a national meeting in October 2008 to promote and enhance the multidisciplinary research on possible health risks associated with exposure to endocrine disrupters (ED). The meeting targeted priority issues such as food safety and the effects on neurobehavioral development. This Report collects the contributions presented for the meeting. The possibility and opportunity of building a national network is emphasized: this will give added value to the many activities on ED, from experimental toxicology through to exposure assessment and epidemiology. Research advances on ED have to be translated into tools for risk assessment and prevention, according to a strategy (from bench to risk assessment) of 'translational prevention'.
