At the West Florida Natural Gas (WFNG) hazardous waste site, the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) and the US Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry’s (ATSDR) top priority is to make sure nearby residents have the best information to safeguard their health. FDOH initiated this assessment because EPA designated WFNG as a Superfund alternative approach site. The WFNG hazardous waste site is at 613 Northeast Osceola Avenue and 206 Northeast 9th Street in Ocala, Florida. From the late 1890s to the 1950s, the site owners operated a manufactured gas plant (MGP) on part of the site. MGP operations polluted groundwater and soil at the site.
