Imports and Exports of Fishery Products: Annual Summary, 2010

U.S. imports of edible fishery products in 2010 were valued at $14.8 billion, $1.7 billion more than in 2009. The quantity of edible imports was 2,474,946 metric tons, an increase of 133,704 tons (5.7 percent) from the quantity imported in 2009. Imports of nonedible fishery products were valued at $12.6 billion, $2.15 billion more than in 2009. Total value of edible and nonedible fishery imports was $27.4 billion in 2010, $3.8 billion more than in 2009. U.S. exports of edible fishery products of domestic origin in 2010 were 1,202,846 tons valued at $4.13 billion, compared with 1,119,732 tons at $3.74 billion exported in 2009. Exports of nonedible products were valued at $15.3 billion. Exports of fish meal amounted to 76,512 tons valued at $95.5 million. The total value of edible and nonedible exports was $19.5 billion, $2.4 billion more than in 2009. U.S. exports of edible fishery products of foreign origin were 36,241 tons valued at $245.8 million, compared to 35,245 tons valued at $241.9 million re-exported in 2009. Fresh and frozen items were 32,479 tons valued at $214.6 million. Re-exports of nonedible fishery products were valued at $2.6 billion. Fish oils accounted for 2,390 tons valued at $7.0 million. The total value of edible and nonedible re-exports was $2.9 billion, $308.8 million more than in 2009.
