The results of this survey indicate that there has been very little fabrication of light-alloy strictures by welding wrought sections thicker than 1 inch. Some heliarc welding of hot-rolled magnesium plate has been done on l-inch-thick material, but such thicknesses are exceptional for magnesium alloys and, for the most part, welding of wrought magnesium hrs been confined to relatively light sections. Data on heliarc welding of extruded magnesium alloys up to 1/2 inch in thickness, and sheet up to 0.125 inch in thickness, indicate joint efficiencies of from 60 to 98 per cent, varying with the alloy and temper. Gas welding of magnesium alloys results in more erratic properties than inert-g8S shielded-arc welding, and the efficiency of gas-volded joints is generally somewhat lower.
