A survey is made of the existing switching devices with particular attention to the performance of hydrogen thyratrons, ignitrons and. spark gap switches. All known high power spark gaps are discussed es a guide to our program and to emphasize their potential suitability for modern radar modulators.nA detailed study is mode of the factors contributing to erosion, Jitter and deionization tine of spark gaps. Several suggestions are made for reducing erosion in spark gaps, for accomplishing low jitter operation and for the attainment of higher repetition rates.
