Alkali Centrifuge Value Characterizes Resin Finished Fabric

The alkali centrifuge technique has been employed to determine the alkali centrifuge value (ACV) of yarn extracted from fabrics treated with different resins fixed under a variety of curing conditions employing different catalysts. As the resin content increases, the ACV decreases. Simple relationships between the resin contents and the mechanical properties on the one hand and the alkali centrifuge value on the other have been established. The alkali centrifuge values of resin finished fabrics have thus been shown to be a measure of their swelling property and can be used to predict the changes in their mechanical properties. Thus a single parameter can characterize a resin finished fabric. The present method is simple and has the added advantages of convenience, reproducibility as well as ease and speed of execution.
