The feasibility of inducing circulatory stirring in the slag bath during the electroslag remelting of ingots of up to 310mm diameter has been investigated. Observations have been made of the motor effects produced by external stirring coils in respect of ingot structure,surface finish,melt-stability,efficiency and rate.
