Factors That Influence Career Direction: A Descriptive Study of Master's Prepared Veterans Administration Nurses

This report views the shortage of leadership in nursing administration and nursing education as nursing's foremost internal problem and a national priority, since it affects the quality and quantity of health care in the country as a whole. Research is proposed to identify factors that influence VA nurses with master's degree preparation when considering career direction as related to three centralized administrative positions: Chief, Nursing Service; Assistant Chief, Nursing Service; and Associate Chief, Nursing Service for Education. The project plan calls for a survey of 400 master's-prepared VA nurses who were asked to complete a questionnaire, a copy of which is included in the appendices.
