摘要

This is a report of the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board's ad hoc Committee on Turbine Engine Test Facilities (TETF) on the potential role of NASA's Lewis Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio. The study was requested by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to determine what the Lewis Research Center could do to further advance the state of the art in aircraft propulsion and how the Center and the U.S. Air Force's Arnold Engineering Development Center, Tullahoma, Tennessee could share responsibilities for engine testing, taking into consideration what the industry is capable of doing through use of its own test facilities. Additional consideration was given to how the Lewis center could contribute to the ongoing non-aeronautical national energy effort with emphasis on alternate energy conversion concepts. Conclusions and recommendations were made regarding the need for stimulation of the NASA Lewis Research Center's work with the U.S. aircraft engine industry and for the Center's activities in support of the national energy program.
