摘要

A walk-through survey was conducted at the Chevron Chemical Company, Mary Heights, Missouri on May 24, 1978. The purpose of the survey was to determine if exposure to chlorinated-hydrocarbon pesticides affected male reproductive capacity and cardiovascular disease. The workforce consisted of 110 workers; approximately 60 workers were exposed to chlorinated-hydrocarbons. Approximately 15 percent of the formulating processes included chlorinated-hydrocarbons. The remainder of the formulations were organophosphates, carbamates, and fertilizers. Each worker received a preemployment physical examination and annual physical examination after the age of 40. Cholinesterase was determined every 2 weeks for workers involved in organophosphorous pesticide production. Separate lunch and changing rooms were maintained for the employees. Workers were furnished with clean coveralls at the end of each shift. Additional safety equipment, such as respirators, rubber gloves, goggles, and rubber boots were provided. NIOSH concludes that any potential effects on the male reproductive capacity and on certain risk factors for cardiovascular disease cannot be attributed conclusively to chlorinated-hydrocarbons.
