Striped Bass, 'Morone saxatilis', Production and Stocking Experiments in Coastal Alabama

Although brood striped bass were collected during all segments of the project, spawning of broodfish was not achieved until 1979. Seventy adult brood stripers were captured in February-March 1979 from which 11.86 million eggs were taken and 1.35 million fry successfully hatched. During the reporting period, 2,192,962 fingerlings were reared and 2,102,603 released by personnel into Alabama coastal waters. An increase in fry stocking density/production pond from 625,000/ha to 1,250,000/ha yielded an increase of over 87,000 fingerlings/ha, but decreased the percent survival. A total of 4,304 advance fingerlings was cultured during this reporting period from which 988 were of sufficient size to tag. Total striped bass stocking during this reporting period including fingerlings was 2,865,907.
