Economic and Social Benefits of Family Planning in Guatemala, November 25-30, 1979

This report assesses, for development planners, the favorable social and economic benefits of a successful FP program. After comparing Guatemalan demographics with other countries in the region, the report identifies development planning goals which can be served by increased FP activity along with the differential impact on the attainment of economic and social goals of four alternative projections of reductions in the total fertility rate (TFR). A final section calculates the costs of achieving alternative fertility levels and develops cost/benefit comparisons of the population projections.
