Analysis and Design of Advanced Stern-Tube Bearing Systems.

摘要

This report covers the development of new bearing concepts aimed at improving the conditions and reliability of stern-tube bearing operation. An analysis of shaft bending and bearing performance has been translated into appropriate computer programs which provide comprehensive solutions to the shaft-bearing problem. Two new bearing arrangements,one rigid and one self-aligning,both containing new bearing designs,are proposed which provide system optimization for each particular vessel. A sample analysis of an actual 380,000 DWT tanker is conducted in order to show the striking superiority of the proposed new bearing designs.
