As an engineering tool, this system can either hydraulically design a culvert or hydraulically review an existing or proposed culvert size. The design or review process for drainage culverts is accomplished by routing a hydrograph through the culvert, thereby taking advantage of temporary upstream pond storage. Analysis employing the irrigation design alternative uses only the peak discharge. Various hydrograph relationships, culvert shapes, material, and inlet types can be investigated. The system provides certain environmental and flood hazard data in addition to the culvert hydraulics.
