Impact and Treatment of Rape Victims and Their Families

The impact and treatment of rape victims and their families were studied. A counseling model for victims of rape was developed. Basic counseling needs and requests, and specific goal setting treatment outcomes were provided to the victims and their families. Significant findings included the early 'bonding' effect between counselor and victim in the emergency room, the effectiveness of the Guide to Goals (GTG) treatment model in reducing depression with rape victims, and GTG's effectiveness as a treatment model early in the process and continuing over time, remaining significant at six months.
