The extent of irrigation development in Indonesia and its future prospects are addressed in this study, one of a series on Southeast Asian rice policies. Irrigated areas are inventoried by province, and rice production (and cropping intensity) are analyzed with the help of statistical tables. The efficiency of existing water management programs is then evaluated and efforts to rehabilitate irrigation systems and establish pilot tertiary plots aimed at demonstrating terminal water control are noted.
