Over One-Year Operation of Lenox Water Treatment Plant. Part 1

Lenox Water Treatment Plant is the first full-scale (1-MGD) potable flotation plant built in America. The treatment plant consisting of dissolved air flotation, automatic backwash filtration sludge lagoon, and flotation sludge thickener, has been serving about 6500 residents and 3500 Summer tourists in the Town of Lenox, Massachusetts since July 19, 1982. The plant effluent meets the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Drinking Water Standards for turbidity, pH, color, coliform, and trihalomethane. The Lenox Plant recycles all filter backwash wastewater to the intake section for reproduction of potable water; therefore, the innovative plant produces no wastewater, except a very small volume of highly concentrated alum sludge. This technical report summarizes the plant's operational data from May 1982 to July 1983.
