The book highlights the life and checkered scientific career of the great Russian metallurgist, founder of the science of steel and father of advanced metallurgy, Pavel Petrovich Anosov, whose works have been of great significance in machine building. The author substantiates the fact that Anosov was the first to discover the secret of Damascus steel - a secret which had been lost for several centuries. He describes the research carried out by Anosov in geology and mining, his contribution as a machine builder to the development of the technology of gold mining and his extensive work as an outstanding figure in the mining and metallurgical industry of the Urals in the first half of the nineteenth century. The book is intended for a wide circle of readers, interested in the history of technology.
